Existing Vibration System Retrofits and Upgrades

Pemex word report B 28 nov 2011 1.jpg

Plant Machinery assets have a longer life cycle than its controls, instrumentation, and related systems which become obsolete sooner, so complete control systems retrofits are typical after the first 20-30 operating years. On critical machinery vibration systems retrofits are typically part of complete control system retrofit project, Rototec-RMS can be part of the team since vibration scope requires special technical expertise and skills, the typical scope includes:

Technical Direction – Site survey of the facilities, recommendations, and scope definition, additional new channels, modifications, etc. New System adequation, modifications, integration, and interfacing additions.

Turn Around Execution – Works with turn around group and associated engineers / technicians to remove existing system and transducers from the machine, ensure correct operation of all field components to be reused (if applicable). The following activities are carried out with minimal or no support from customer during a

Turn Around to manage other projects.

This is a typical scope of activities carried out:

  • Transducers – Removal of all existing transducer systems, temperatures, mounting accessories, and flex seal tight for mechanics to begin work. Validate all existing transducer systems if they are going to be reused, or new transducer systems by performing linearity checks. Document of linearity and part numbers & serial numbers. Check the signal cables to be reused and the junction boxes condition.

  • Machine Protection System Installation - Documentation and configuration of monitor parameters to customer specifications. Record part numbers, serial numbers, and field programmable options. Confirm proper grounding. Install new cabinets with customer support or contracted assistance. Terminate field wiring for monitoring system. Confirm vibration points are setup correctly in configuration software for optimal data collection in Condition Monitoring Software.

  • Verification / Loop Checks – Perform loop checks to validate continuity from probe back to DCS/System 1/Board Operator. Validate Relay logic and functionality. Validate DCS communication and test full-scale ranges & custom Modbus registries.

Documentation Services - All system components will be documented, including but not limited to, model numbers, serial numbers, monitor configuration, software configuration, and machine train locations.  All calibration verification data will be documented “as left” format. All findings will be documented, and any action items will be processed through procedures defined by and agreed on by both parties.
